KOREA BUSAN 〜Busan. Seafood Heaven.

The cityscape approaches the sea. Busan.
The mood of moored fishing boats, a somewhat different vibe from Japan.

Jagalchi Market. Flounder and sea bream. Abalone and crab. The Sea God’s Palace of fish tanks.

The street just outside the market is lined with seafood stands. A shop owned by a woman with the best perm in the market. I watch her as she skillfully and matter-of-factly cuts the flounder, and dresses it with garlic, perilla leaves and hot pepper paste.

If Jalgalchi is Tsukiji’s Outer Market, then this is Ameyoko. A large marketplace where the locals go, located behind the Ibis Hotel. There is no need for the inessentials, like glass cases and packaging. This is the epitome of local. This is what you call a marketplace.
