Asia To a Monochrome Sky ❶ Malaysia
Menara Berkembar Petronas – PETRONAS Twin Towers, an icon of Malaysia’s capitol, Kuala Lumpur. Two towers piercing the skies. The sight of it, emitting sharp metallic lights, resembling spears penetrating the skies, is representative of Malaysia’s remarkable development as a country. The facade of the church that stretches in a sharp angle, the minaret of the large mosque from which azans reverberate and the high-rise buildings each vying to be the tallest – products possibly borne from the contemplations of people who, thousands of years ago, gazed up at the skies and instinctively pondered how they might reach them.
Just a short walk from the temple is Kuala Lumpur’s oldest mosque, the “Masjid Jamek”, and not 50m from there is the Chinese temple, “Guandi Temple”. “A place where muddy rivers mingle” [the meaning of “Kuala Lumpur”], a place where ethnicities and religions mingle.
